It was New Year’s Eve 2001. I was a city girl with a one-way ticket to Europe. He was a country boy looking for some end of year fun at the Gold Coast.
Somehow we ended up at the same party. Our eyes met across the room and the rest is history.
The road travelled wasn’t always smooth. I had to overcome my ‘dumb farmer’ stereotypes, he had to resolve his desires to remain single and ‘free’.
Somewhere along the way he became Mr Bean – the star of a weekly column in the Gold Coast Bulletin chronicling all things vegetables, romance and family.
Our sons – Baby Bean and Little Bean – arrived in 2005 and 2007 and life since then has been eventful.
My knowledge of crop rotations, soil science and tractor maintenance has come ahead in leaps and bounds.
His knowledge of women’s issues, my moods and how to keep the peace is improving.
